Tim Collins and Reiko Goto are environmental artists working together since 1985. They are interested in the ways that art and imagination contribute to practical wisdom and democratic discourse about ethics and human values. The work primarily focuses upon natural public places and everyday experience of environmental commons. As the world grapples with possible technological solutions to environmental crisis, the topic of ‘programmable nature’ has become a powerful theme in the areas of ecology, preservation, and biotechnology, as well as in art, philosophy and cultural studies. In this series of interviews, the College of Arts’ Digital Departures Lab profile the work of the artists working at the cross section of art, science and technology to explore the condition of ‘programmable nature’. Led by the University of Glasgow’s College of Arts, The Dear Green Bothy is an open space where researchers, artists and communities can gather to respond creatively and critically to the challenges of the ecological crisis.
