New project pages and a film archive

We have rebuilt the project pages on this site. Each one now opens with a film or a key image, followed by a short account of the work: where it happened, who it was made with, what it set out to do, and where to read more.

Six projects

  • HAKOTO (2022–): a wearable instrument that makes the photosynthesis and transpiration of a living plant audible, most recently with the bogs of Leitrim and Sligo.
  • Eden 3: Plein Air (2008–19): a sculptural instrument on a painter’s easel that lets you listen to a tree leaf breathing.
  • The Black Wood of Rannoch (2012–17): art with, rather than in, one of Scotland’s Caledonian pinewoods.
  • Lough Boora (2019–20): deep mapping the cutaway peatlands of the Irish Midlands.
  • Nine Mile Run (1996–2000): artists, scientists and citizens reclaiming a slag-filled stream valley in Pittsburgh.
  • 3 Rivers 2nd Nature (2000–05): art, ecology and community on the rivers of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Film & Video

Thirty films from the studio’s Vimeo channel, 2010–2024, are now gathered on one page and grouped by project: HAKOTO performances with trees and bogs, Decoy and The Forest is Moving from the Black Wood, and A Tree is a LIVING Thing from Plein Air. Watch on the Film & Video page.

More project pages will follow. Exhibitions, performances and writing will continue to appear here on the News page.
